The City Council of Alzira was accredited as a sending, hosting and coordinating organization of EVS projects in September 2012.

The European Voluntary Service consists of a non-formal learning experience in the area of education, in which young volunteers improve or acquire skills for personal, educational and professional development as well as social integration in European organizations.

European Voluntary Service (EVS) supports transnational voluntary work for youth. The objective is to develop solidarity and to promote tolerance between young people, primarily to reinforce social cohesion within the EU. This programme also promotes active citizenship and understanding amongst youth.

EVS is open for young people aged between 18 and 30 years who are legal residents of the countries of the sending organizations, regardless of their education level.

EVS can last from 2 months to one year and covers maintenance, accommodation and transport costs for volunteers. Volunteers also receive monthly payments between 80 and 100 Euros for personal expenses.
